Mondi has revealed brown kraftliner packaging with white digital printing for its customer Riedel Glas, designed to support the market launch of the All American Bourbon glass series.
Reidel Glas is headquartered in Kufstein, Austria. Mondi’s design for the company features fine lines, small font sizes and integrated QR codes, using high-performance digital printing which it says enables ‘precise and consistent’ reproduction of complex graphic elements on uncoated brown substrates.
The company adds that its digital printing is based on data-to-print technology and does not require printing plates. Ink is applied directly to the material in fine droplets, allowing ‘detailed reproduction and efficient production processes’.
Mondi states that it recently invested in white digital printing at its Ebersdorf site in Germany, said to enable premium visual results on brown kraftliner and deliver high opacity and sharp edges.
The new packaging also features serialized barcodes or QR codes which allow each individual package to be uniquely identified along the supply chain, seeking to improve traceability and support automated processes. Mondi highlights that different print images can be produced within a single order, enabling regional variants or targeted designs without additional set-up effort.
The resulting packaging solution is said to be fully recyclable while aligning with Riedel Glas’ quality expectations.
Last year Mondi announced it was introducing a six-colour digital printing range for corrugated board including water-based white inks for brown materials, facilitating high-contrast designs for primary and secondary packaging. All the inks are said to be water-based, with Swiss Quality Testing Services (SQTS) testing and approving their food safety for primary packaging.
In January, HD Barcode revealed its HDInfoCode, an advanced 2D code designed for consumers with disabilities including reading challenges and visual or hearing impairments. Aiming to improve the accessibility of on-pack product information, consumers can access the code through a free public app or in-store PC applications.
