Aptar Closures has designed its recyclable, single-component E-Disc Top closure for e-commerce applications in the beauty, personal care, and home care sectors, intending to prevent damage to products during transportation.
The closure’s integrated, concealed mechanism requires additional force upon first opening, but operates as a standard disc top closure going forward. Said to be Amazon ISTA-6 Compliant, it is set to survive harsh handling and transportation processes while also keeping intuitive consumer use in mind.
Therefore, it is anticipated to protect brands from reputational damage and revenue loss in relation to customer complaints and damaged product returns. So, too, is it set to enable an easy unboxing experience, free from the hassle of excess, difficult-to-remove external packaging.
E-Disc Top is made from polypropylene and is available with post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. It is also thought to replace liners, shrink bands, and other extra packaging applied to e-commerce deliveries, thus cutting down on waste.
In turn, the removal of liners is expected to simplify the supply chain and lower lead times. Aptar adds that the E-Disc Top closure allows brands to bypass shipping preparation fees charged when major online retailers apply additional protective packaging.
The closure is manufactured in the United States and is currently produced in a 24-410 flat neck finish. It is suited to medium to thick viscosities, features a crab claw seal, and fits orifice sizes of .166 and .310 inches.
Erin Harmon, North America product line director at Aptar Closures, said: “At Aptar Closures, we are dedicated to developing and bringing to market the next generation of dispensing solutions tailored to the evolving needs of our brand partners and consumers.
“Our E-Disc Top underscores this commitment. Its intuitive functionality, paired with enhanced shipping durability and sustainability attributes, reaffirms our efforts to offering practical yet impactful solutions for our brand partners worldwide.”
The E-Disc Top closure is the second in a series of three disc top dispensing solutions that Aptar Closures will release for beauty, personal care and home care applications this year. The first is the Future Disc Top, an e-commerce-capable locking disc top closure designed for full recyclability when applied to a PE or PET bottle.
Meanwhile, SnapSlide recently unveiled a line of no-torque caps that enable single-handed opening and closing for consumers with physical disabilities.
