Kelpi and Bower Collective have launched a recyclable paper sachet for liquid products that uses a biobased coating made from renewably sourced seaweed.
The sachets are being used to package samples of Bower Collective’s 5ml hand wash products in Orange Blossom & Mimosa, Pistachio & Vanilla, and Wild Peach scents.
The packs are coated with Kelpi’s proprietary biomaterial, which the company says provides paper with the water barrier performance required to hold liquid formulations while matching the performance of fossil fuel-derived alternatives.
Guardpack, a UK-Based producer of sachets and wet wipes, manufactured the sachets – Kelpi reports that this was done as a drop-in solution on existing sachet-filling lines with no equipment changes required.
Sachets have historically been considered to be difficult to recycle due to their multi-laminate construction. Kelpi says that its coated paper sachets can be disposed of in household paper recycling streams, and that it has been designed to “biodegrade safely” should it end up in the natural environment.
