Arpanon has launched a new ultra-lightweight 600 ml bottle that is 30% lighter and 50% less energy intensive than its previous version.
The key challenge during the development of this new bottle was the need to reduce bottle weight without compromising the strength required throughout filling, handling and distribution operations.
Sidel, Arpanon’s partner on the project, aimed to meet this challenge by creating a 25/22 neck PET bottle weighing nine grams, developed without the need for nitrogen while still reportedly achieving more than 30kg of top-load performance.
The companies say that this optimisation reduced bottle weight by approximately 30%, from preform design through bottle development and line optimisation, while maintaining the required performance.
In addition to developing the bottle, Sidel also created a complete production solution for the product using its 36,000 bph Combi line, which integrates blowing, filling and capping into a single system.
The companies report that this new system helped Arpanon to double production output while using only 25% of its previous labour requirement. Blowing pressure was also reportedly reduced by approximately one-third, while electricity consumption per unit and production time were apparently cut by 50% and 70% respectively.
