Amcor has unveiled a new 38mm handle for PET containers for water and other non-carbonated beverages, said to have a user-friendly strong grip for easy carrying.
The new handle is compatible with Amcor’s Proxima Tethered Closure and other beverage closures, and suitable for large PET containers of up to 10 litres. When combined with the closure, Amcor says the handle saves 34.5% in weight compared to the 48 mm version, as well as retention tabs to hold it to the neck securely and tightly.
The company adds that one of the drivers for the 5-10 litre market is bulk purchasing for the home, office or camping.
“This new 38mm handle comes at the right time, with more consumers demanding water or non-carbonated beverages in container sizes of between 5 to 10 litres,” said Uli Kobert, product line manager for Beverage Closures & Home Care Triggers at Amcor. “It’s a solution that is convenient for the consumer and makes it easier to carry.”
In related news, last year Coca-Cola HBC Austria, DS Smith and Krones teamed up on a recyclable, corrugated handle for soft drink multipacks, a solution said to replace around 200 tonnes of plastic shrink wrap annually. Designed for multipacks of 1.5L PET bottles, the solution features a soft grip to improve carry functionality.
This month Ekoroll announced a lid-free paper cup for hot and cold drinks, featuring an integrated lid and drinking spout alongside a water-based coating for recyclability and compostability. The design is also hoped to align with upcoming revisions to the Plastic and Plastic Waste Regulation and help customers avoid taxation for plastic packaging components.
