The German Folding Carton Association FFI and Pro Carton, the European Association of Carton and Cartonboard Manufacturers will once again be represented on a joint stand at FachPack in Nuremberg, from 24-26 September 2019. Together, the two associations will represent the German and European cartonboard industry.

Carbon neutral standSustainability remains the dominant theme of the packaging industry, which is reflected in the concept of the FFI and Pro Carton stand. The associations have limited their use of plastic at FachPack, and any CO2 consumption is being offset by additional climate protection projects, so that the stand is carbon neutral.

Sustainable packagingThe associations will take the opportunity to highlight how folding cartons score highly in terms of sustainability: cartonboard is made of 100% renewable, non-fossil raw materials such as wood fibres and cellulose or recovered paper. According to research, paper fibres can be recycled over 25 times in order to produce new fibre-based printed products and packaging.

The fibres obtained from wood or the pulp used in the production of cartonboard in Europe come exclusively from sustainable and mostly certified forestry (FSC, PEFC). In addition, CO2 absorbed by trees remains throughout the entire life cycle of the wood fibre; this means it is also bound in the carton of the folding box as well as via the paper recycling process.
