BOTTLESS is a finalist in this year’s Sustainability Awards with its refillable Airless Pak, said to reduce plastic use by 90% and nominated in the Pre-Commercialized Driving the Circular Economy category. We spoke to CEO and founder Chiwon Yi to find out more about this innovation.

You’re a finalist in the Sustainability Awards 2025. Congratulations! To start off, could you summarize your entry, in less than 50 words?

BOTTLESS’s Airless Pak is an innovative, refillable airless packaging solution combining flexible pouches and reusable dispensers. It significantly reduces plastic consumption by 95%, offers over 20 refills, eliminates product waste, and fully aligns with circular economy goals and EU sustainability regulations (PPWR).

Why do you think the judges were impressed with your entry?

Judges likely recognized Airless Pak’s clear and quantifiable sustainability benefits: dramatically cutting plastic use, enhancing resource efficiency through reusable design, and directly responding to stringent packaging regulations such as PPWR.

Its innovative combination of refillable pouches and airless technology provides an immediately applicable, scalable solution across cosmetics, personal care, and food industries. The tangible and measurable impact on reducing environmental footprints in packaging probably resonated strongly.

Finally, can you tell us about the ongoing development of your project, e.g. how your innovation/initiative has been received by the industry, or what the next steps are in commercialization/product development?

Industry reception has been very positive, highlighted by partnerships and pilot projects with prominent global brands. We’re preparing our commercial launch in partnership with a French cosmetics brand scheduled for September 2025.

The next steps involve scaling production capabilities, securing additional strategic partnerships and further validating our product in diverse applications across the European and global markets.

The winners of the Sustainability Awards 2025 will be announced at the Sustainable Packaging Summit, taking place in Utrecht on 10-12 November. The Summit mobilizes leaders of the FMCG value chain, policymakers, NGOs, recyclers and investors to collaborate, remove barriers and identify opportunities on the road to sustainable transformation.
