On Thursday Keienburg GmbH, Germany, presents its current patented cardboard can for carbonated beverages. This can is the only one world wide which meets in a perfect way the demands of beverage industry, consumers and today's enviromental friendly packaging challenges.
The can body is made of a patented multilayer beverage board which has been developed to be used for every kind of beverages. Whether it is beer, sparkling soft drinks, juices, coffee drinks, everything can be filled and pasteurized in this innovative packaging. Keienburg sells complete can body production units which produce the packaging directly at the filling lines. These inline production systems, as known from juice or milk board packaging, have an output up from 40.000 cans/hour.
Currently used filling lines only need simple modifications to process the cans as standard aluminium pull up can tops are used. This newly introduced production system saves up to 30% costs. It is not only the cardboard which is cheaper than i.e. aluminium.
High costs for transportation and storage of empty metal cans are the past. To produce the cardboard can only board reels and can tops and ends are delivered to the fillers. One reel of 4 feet diameter and 0,5 feet width is equivalent to 4.000 cans. Also marketing directors will be happy with this packaging innovation as for marketing campaigns every new board reel may change the can's graphical appearence. In Germany the can is subject to be labeled as „Ecological Favorable Packaging“. The fact of it's advantages in ecological criteria is one of many reasons clients will give their preference to the cardboard can in contrary to the metal beverage cans. Another one is the fact that beverages stay longer cold in a cardboard container than in a packaging made of thin metal.
At the POS the clients won't see any difference between the old and the modern can as the cardboard can is currently produced in the actual slimline shape. Many sizes are available including Party KEGs and barrels for gastronomic use.
